Water blasting
We have in-house the latest technology water blasting equipment, including robots, crawlers and hand held units. The use of these water blasting units, with ultra-high pressure (UHP), has along with development of new equipment increased rapidly over the years. One of the main reasons is that water blasting is a dust-free blasting method with very few environmental side effects. This means that water blasting does not necessarily interfere with dust-sensitive work being done at the same time. Waterblasting can be used around delicate equipment such as bearings, controls and hydraulics without the need for protection.
The use of waterblasting also has the ecological advantage of eliminating the collection and disposal of blasting media.
The use of water blasting technology enables work to be done in areas where conventional blasting methods would be impossible. Water blasting is ideally suited to sensitive areas as such as terminals, refineries and urban areas.
Chlorides
Water blasting also has a very good cleaning effect. Apart from removing old coatings and rust, the ultra-high pressure also removes deeply-embedded crystallised salt, resulting in a notable reduction in the chloride levels on the surface.
Extensive testing has proved that achieving low chloride levels is the single most important phase in the surface treatment operation.
Experience
Premator initiated the use of water blasting some 40 years ago and can today offer a wide range of water blasting solutions to suit our customers’ every need.
The major coating manufacturers have now recognised the benefits of water blasting and they have developed a range of surface-tolerant primers and coatings that have been designed specially to adhere to water blasted surfaces.
